ABout Gotland Art Week

On the website gotland.net/gotlandartweek you will find the Gotland Art Week program translated into English.

Gotland Art Week takes place for the second time this year, from the 21st until the 28th of August 2016, when the island is still flowing with life, the pulse of the high season has calmed slightly and the weather is often at its best.
This week of culture and art includes everything from painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, film and dance, to fashion, music, design, architecture, light and sound.
The Art Week events cover the entire island, with Visby´s beautiful old town as the natural heart of activity. Gotland Art Week is responsible for all organization, PR and advertising, both locally and nationally, but it’s the artists and participants who create a huge variation of content and offer the public a unique experience.
Gotland Art Week’s vision is to create a cultural meeting place that returns year after year with a major focus on artistic variation. Visby´s cobbled streets, squares and spectacular ruins will be filled with a thrilling cascade of art and laughter, with countless types of music, dance and installation.
The doors to the island’s museums, studios, galleries, village halls, churches and cinemas will be open to all and Gotland’s rich and vibrant music scene will bubble with life to spread the good feeling.
Gotland’s bars, restaurants and hotels will benefit from an additional week in the summer season to attract a new public and the island will welcome and inspire a growing cultural community from the Swedish mainland and, in time, throughout Europe.
Gotland Art Week is an ideal collective, which is proud to have received over 120 membership applications in its first year. Membership fees are an important part of financing this fantastic project and contributions are also warmly accepted.
Membership costs 500.kr per year. If you’re interested in being a part of Gotland Art Week, please email your name, address and telephone number to info@gotlandartweek.se
